Enable Infrastructure Welcomes New Bid Manager Paul Hulin

Whilst still at school Paul was head hunted to start his career in retail eventually becoming a trouble shooter for Clark’s shoes taking on and turning round poorly performing stores and even managing to get one troublesome location into their top 20 stores in the UK.

Retail is a 7-day a week business so with a young family decided rather than change his shoes he would change his career. That was when the idea of working in construction became a reality.

His career in the construction industry began as a submissions coordinator in 2005 working for Skanska in the Building division. He was brought in to take tender submissions to the next level with interactive documents. From there he progressed to Submission Manager overseeing three Operation units: Building, MEP, and Facilities Management. This allowed him to see construction projects go from concept right the way through to seeing their new facilities being used, such as Barts and The London and Papworth Hospitals.

After several years, as part of his career progression he looked to change direction by moving from the production of tenders to setting the strategy and leading bid teams as a Bid Manager.

“For me I had worked with some great and interesting Bid Managers. What they have to do to pull a compelling bid together fascinated me and wanted to be part of creating some inspiring submissions”.

Following a few years at Skanska, Paul moved to Kier to get more involved with local projects as well as building further understanding of framework delivery.

When asked about why he has joined Enable Infrastructure  (formerly known as BCM Construction) he gave these reasons as to why he was pleased to become a Bid Manager:

“The world is a rapidly changing place and you must be an inspiring business always looking to the future to progress. From my early discussions with Enable Infrastructure it was clear they are looking for the future so it is an exciting time to join them. With their growth and the family feel to the business, I am excited to develop my bid management skills and together achieve greater things.”

Married with two children, Paul always has a balanced focus of work and home life. As a Mental Health First Aider, he is always making sure that through the bids, the team remains focused yet take the time out to smell the roses.

Having been brought up in Scouting, Paul has benefited from an early age of understanding the importance of knowing who we are and how we fit into the environment around us. In everything he does, Paul looks for opportunities to care for the environment and give back to our communities. As leader for the local Scout Group, he has enjoyed giving others opportunities to do things that don’t often come your way, such as Scout Camps and playing manhunt in a Nuclear Bunker.

Paul helps to organise charity events and likes to have a challenge each year. With a fear of heights and having to often face this while taking groups climbing and abseiling, he recently challenged himself to abseil the 418ft National lift tower in Northampton. This was to help raise funds for Cystic Fibrosis, New Hope Trust and the Catholic Agency For Overseas Development. He has been Chairman of the local Catenians an organisation that promote: Friendship, Family and Faith.
